Howard L. Hawks Hall is a 240,000-square-foot academic building and the largest academic construction project in recent University of Nebraska–Lincoln history. Built to serve as a central gathering space for students, faculty, and regional business leaders, the facility reflects the College of Business’s mission to foster collaboration, innovation, and excellence.
The building features interactive learning environments, state-of-the-art classrooms, and cutting-edge technology throughout. Signature spaces include two large auditoriums with seating for up to 385 and a three-story square box fully wrapped in glass—known as “The Cube”—housing the Dean’s office. Striking architectural elements include large floating staircases with curved glass handrails, 50,000 square feet of terrazzo flooring, and a 50-foot-tall kinetic art sculpture anchoring the north atrium. The courtyard features a conductive concrete snowmelt ramp designed by a UNL professor.
The project was recognized with the 2019 AGC Build Nebraska Award in the $50 Million & Greater category.
